Here's a description of what comes with Nascom 32

Description

The Nascom 32 is a Single Board Computer built around the Zilog Z380 MPU. The board has 16 MB of DRAM and can use 32 MB DRAM modules. With Nascom 32 the user can design electronics and programs for an embedded Z380 application without the need for an expensive In Circuit Emulator. The card comes built and tested, with a hardware upgrade that makes it possible to switch out ROM under program control. This opens a galaxy of possibilities for the user.

A PC is required to operate Nascom 32. The system requirements on the PC are as follows:

- 640 KB system memory
- Intel 386 or higher
- Parallel port with EPP 1.9 capability
- DOS 6.0 or later
- Windows 3.1/95/98/ME
- Approximately 10 MB hard disk space
- 3.5" High Density Disk Drive.

The user provides a suitable parallel port cable and power supply.

NOTE: Nascom 32 EPP Server will not run on Windows 2000/NT/XP.

Hardware specification:

- Four layer PCB with two power planes and two signal planes.
- CPU Zilog Z380 operating at 20 MHz.
- EPROM 27C512 containing the NASSYS 32 monitor.
- Memory 16 MB DRAM (the memory socket works with 32 MB modules).
- EPP controller for communication.
- BUS 96/96 DIN socket with all processor signals present for application development.

Software specification:

- Circuit diagram of the design.
- NAS-SYS 32 monitor. Source code included.
- PolyDos 32 executive. Higher level of functionality than the NAS-SYS 32 monitor. Ability to execute files.
Internal commands like load and save. Source code included.
- Over 15 external commands. Clear memory, switch out ROM, view keyboard scan codes, 8080 to Z80 translator and more.
  All sources included.
- Symbolic Debugger for program development and debugging. Includes capability to produce source code to memory,
which can be saved on disk. Source code included.
- The JEDEC files for all PLDs are included.
- A documentation file is included covering the following sections:

SECTION 1 System Requirements

SECTION 2 Installing Nascom 32 Software

SECTION 3 Getting started

SECTION 4 A Quick Lesson

SECTION 5 Use of the NAS-SYS 32 Monitor

SECTION 6 NAS-SYS 32 User Manual

SECTION 7 PolyDos 32 Users Guide

SECTION 8 PolyDos 32 System Programmer's Guide

SECTION 9 The Symbolic Debugger

SECTION 10 Server Commands

SECTION 11 Development Utilities

Two programs are in the pipe line to be released by email to the purchasers of Nascom 32:

- Math48 Floating Point Package.
Provided as two text files: a documentation file (in Danish) and an assembly source code file.
Includes a test program to calculate sine, cosine and arctan. This is an extraordinary
competent floating point package written by Him, the author of PolyDos: Anders Hejlsberg.
The package has been adapted for use by the Z380 executing in the NAS-SYS 32 environment.

- ZREX Real Time Executive.
Provided as two files: an html documentation file explaining the kernel routines, and a source code file,
richly commented in english, easy to use and change. Based on Introl CREX by Richard Pennington for the
Motorola 68HC11 processor (among others) and fully ported to the Z380. All variables and pointers are 32 bits.
Intended for embedded real time applications. The source code file implements 4 threads and you can see
on the screen what is going on while typing characters on the keyboard.
Please note that the program needs extra hardware (an interrupt source) not provided in the delivery.

Isn't this interesting?

Please ask questions if you have any.
